Announcements galore

Today I have announcements. Not about my 1000th blogpost – I’m still contemplating that. I promise that I won’t put myself to vast amounts of trouble, since several people have expressed concern about this. Right now, I rather like the thought of an ancient recipe on the day and a picnic so that people local to me can celebrate historical food, sometime near.
Gary Allen guest-blogged for me a while back, and he’s written to let me know his website has changed. I love the new look (or old look, perhaps): it’s worth checking out.
Speaking of guest bloggers, Kaaron Warren guest blogged a while ago, too (and is currently in Fiji – I envy her the food, of course, but I mostly envy her the fact that she’s avoiding a very cold Canberra winter – today I blog in my pyjamas because the flat is just not warm enough yet to get dressed), and she has a book called Slights coming out. It’s nothing to do with food history, but if you like amazing writing, grab it. Wait until it’s published first, though, because it’s hard to grab till then. Lots of online bookshops have it available for pre-order.
I might do a series of posts on fiction and food, in a little, since Kaaron’s not the only one with a book coming out. Hers is amazing, though, and mine are merely Gillianish.
Back to pure culinary history and there’s a great conference in Adelaide – the 17th Symposium of Australian Gastronomy – later in the year. Adelaide is the perfect place for a food conference of any sort. They understand wine in South Australia.
I want to tell you about all the spam I get (spam is food, right?) but I shall be sweetness and light and refrain from such a heinous act. The sweetness and light aren’t natural to me and mostly I’m refraining because the spam isn’t food-related. If it were, I could post about it and discuss its role in food history, which would be fun.
