getting the food to our door

With recent health scares in the US, there is a bit more attention right now on the travel that food does before it reaches us. This travel has always been a particularly fascinating part of food history. Spice routes are the stuff of dreams.

Packaging comes hand-in-hand with our foodstuff travelling from where it’s grown to where we can buy it. The UK proudly claims a museum of ephemera (including product packaging), and (quite separately) someone has just put a range of fruit and vegetable labels into flickr. It’s a very special form of art. Go ye and admire!
