the month ahead
I’ve taken a day off from blogging to line up some goodies for you. There will be guest bloggers. And they have interesting things to say. I’ll introduce them as they appear, but I thought I’d let you know now that they’re coming, so that you can put the coffee pot on, or something. Basically, I’m going to start a new series, one that includes the guest bloggers. We’ll be looking at food adulteration. I thought it would be a nice, cheering note to enter the festive season with.
I still have that pile of cookbooks and ephemera which you need to meet. I was going to simply list them all and introduce them the way I introduce my moustache cup to a class: “Class, moustache cup – moustache cup, class.” While Lewis Carroll works as an inspiration for the introducing of moustache cups, cookbooks probably need a little more care and certainly you need to see some of the recipes. I shall spend December, working my way through that pile, doggedly and determinedly, and by New year maybe I shall be able to see my desk and you will wonder why it took me so long to do this simple thing.
That’s most of what will happen in December on this blog. If you want histories of various festive foods, or recipes for festive foods, or anything to do with festivals, you might want to speak up. I have new postcards for anyone who does speak up, demanding something for Chanukah or other fun days. The postcard features my family’s potato latke recipe. I haven’t told my mother that I have put her recipe on a postcard. I shall now hope devoutly that she forgets to read my blog….

Special Chanukah food would be great - am completely ignorant and ready to be educated.

I’m very happy to do a post on it. I can also send you a copy of the postcard with the recipe, if you want one. Email me (use the “contact me” button above right) with an address if you want one.
